30-year-old man killed after pickup bursts into flames in Loop 202 crash in Phoenix

PHOENIX, AZ – One person was killed as a result of a fiery, two-vehicle accident on Loop 202 this weekend in Phoenix, according to KPHO.

The accident happened on eastbound Loop 202 South Mountain, near 17th Avenue, at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, when a white 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck had a mechanical issue and came to a stop in the roadway. The Chevy was then struck from behind by another vehicle and caught fire.

The driver of the pickup truck, Luis Manuel Granados, 30, was inside the vehicle when it burst into flames. He died at the scene.

The other driver, whose identity was not immediately released, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Authorities do not believe the second driver was under the influence at the time. No charges have yet been filed.

Traffic was blocked for several hours, with delays lasting until about 1 p.m.
