6 dead, 5 injured after truck driver crashes into car and SUV in Tonopah

TONOPAH, AZ – Six people were killed in Tonopah on Friday afternoon after a truck driver crashed into a vehicle, causing the smaller car to burst into flames, according to CBS 5 News.

The collision happened on I-10, near milepost 82, at about 1:20 p.m., when the driver of a semi-truck collided with the rear of a Nissan Altima. The truck then crashed into an SUV. The impact caused the   into two, then burst into flames.

Six people inside the Altima died as a result of the crash. At least five of those victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

A mother and her four children, all riding in the SUV, were hospitalized with severe wounds.

The truck driver was not hurt in the crash.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash at this time.
