Narrative
CHANDLER, AZ – A young boy died, and a driver sustained injuries Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash along I-10 in Maricopa County.
The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. near mile marker 166 on the southwest outskirts of Chandler. This is just south of East Queen Creek Road.
Police say that a pickup truck carrying four people collided with an overturned Ford Explorer after the latter vehicle experienced a tire malfunction and crashed along I-10 eastbound.
While the occupants of the pickup truck were unhurt, a child in the front seat of the SUV died at the scene, and the driver of the SUV went to an area hospital with “moderate” injuries.
Officials closed the eastbound side of I-10 for around three hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
