Narrative

GILBERT, AZ – A man died earlier this month when a vehicle struck him along the freeway in east-central Maricopa County.

The accident happened on Friday, January 3rd, around 10:30 p.m. along the westbound side of Loop 202 Santan near Gilbert Road in the city of Gilbert. This is about 22 miles southeast of Phoenix.

Police say the victim was standing with two others along Loop 202 after their vehicle crashed into a barrier. A second vehicle struck the victim and one other person after hitting their disabled vehicle. The impact of the crash caused the second vehicle to ignite.

One of the men died at the scene. Authorities have not yet disclosed his identity to the public.

There’s no word yet regarding charges or additional injuries.
