Narrative
MESA, AZ – A multi-vehicle crash on the south side of Mesa killed two people and injured two others on Thursday.
The accident happened early in the morning at the intersection of the US-60 eastbound off-ramp and Country Club Drive. This is northwest of the El Dorado Lakes Golf Community.
Police say that the driver of a pickup truck failed to slow down for a red-light and rear-ended a car at the intersection. This initial collision caused secondary accidents with two other vehicles. At least one of the four vehicles caught fire in the crash. Additionally, the accident caused a pool-cleaning van to leak chemicals at the scene.
Two people in the vehicle that was rear-ended sustained fatal injuries. Authorities have not yet released their identities to the public.
Medics transported the truck driver and one other person to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
A full investigation is underway.
