1 dead, 3 seriously injured in multi-vehicle crash on Hwy 60 in Mesa

MESA, AZ – A multi-vehicle collision in Mesa on Saturday night led to the death of one person and the hospitalization of three others, according to CBS 5.

The accident happened on Highway 60, near Alma School Road, at about 9:30 p.m., as a driver was attempting to tow a vehicle from the median using a tow strap.

Another car struck the vehicle, pushing it into the middle lanes, and causing the tow strap-carrying vehicle to block the roadway. Multiple other collisions then occurred, according to the report.

The driver of the towing vehicle got out of the car and was then struck by another vehicle. They were taken to the hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

Three other people were taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

The roadway was blocked for several hours as authorities worked the crash, with the eastbound lanes of Hwy 60 open by 1 a.m.

Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
