Crash involving ambulance in Mesa kills 1, injures 2

MESA, AZ – 12News reports that a two-vehicle crash involving an ambulance left one person dead and two others injured in Mesa on Friday.

The collision took place on Route 87 in Mesa and involved an ambulance and a tractor-trailer. Authorities say the tractor-trailer crashed into the ambulance after the driver of the ambulance attempted to pull out onto the highway from a side street.

While there were no patients in the ambulance at the time of the collision, the ambulance driver was killed and another paramedic aboard sustained serious injuries in the impact. The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
