MESA, AZ – A 19-year-old driver is facing charges after she allegedly struck a man riding a bicycle, then fled the scene of the accident in the Western Acres Mobile Park area earlier this week.

According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the accident happened at the intersection of Broadway Road and 98th Street at about 4 p.m. Monday, when 19-year-old Haley Madison Dean allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign.

She crashed into the operator of a motorized bike, a 55-year-old man, and then fled the scene.

The victim sustained a life-threatening head injury in the accident.

After reviewing security footage from the scene and speaking to a person in the neighborhood, authorities discovered the vehicle with damage consistent with a bicycle vs. auto crash.

According to the report, Dean initially denied that she had been involved in the accident. She later, however, confessed to being in her car when the crash occurred.

She is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident.
