1 dead, 1 hurt after being struck by hit-and-run driver while crossing street

PHOENIX, AZ – A pedestrian was killed, and another was injured after they were struck by a hit-and-run driver in East Phoenix on Sunday night, according to ABC 15 News.

The accident happened near the intersection of McDowell Road and 32nd Street at about 9 p.m., when a 43-year-old woman and 43-year-old Leroy Romero were crossing the street at a crosswalk.

They were struck by the driver of a silver Dodge Nitro SUV who then drove away from the site of the crash.

Romero died at the scene.

The female pedestrian, who was not immediately identified, sustained minor wounds in the accident.

Authorities continue to search for the suspect and to investigate the crash.
