Alleged drunk driver faces charges after crash that killed 1, hurt 2 in W Phoenix

PHOENIX, AZ – One person was killed and multiple others were injured this weekend in a multi-vehicle collision in west Phoenix involving an alleged drunk driver.

According to CBS 5 News, the crash happened on Thomas Road and 75th Avenue on Saturday night, after 29-year-old Asheley Alvidrez allegedly crashed into the back of a Mazda. The impact sent the Mazda over the median and into the lanes of oncoming traffic. There, it collided with a Toyota Camry and a Kia.

The 43-year-old driver of the Kia, Fabiola Vargas-Bracamontes, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Camry was hospitalized with head injuries.

The driver of the Mazda sustained several broken bones in the crash.

Alvidrez reportedly failed field sobriety tests and smelled of alcohol after the crash. She is facing a charge of reckless manslaughter, two counts of aggravated assault leading to serious injuries, and a count of reckless endangerment.
