Two lives were claimed in a fiery wrong-way crash on I-10 near 7th Avenue in Phoenix around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 7th. The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the driver of Traffic Unit 1 was traveling at a high rate and in the wrong way through the I-10 tunnel. As a result, the driver crashed into the driver of Traffic Unit 2. The driver of Traffic Unit 3 also hit the driver of Traffic Unit 1. The three occupants of Traffic Unit 3 were hospitalized. One is in stable condition, while two women – 57 and 32 – were critically injured. The drivers of Traffic Units 1 and 2 were killed at the scene. DPS is investigating if impairment was a contributing factor in Sunday’s fatal collision.
