Narrative

PHOENIX, AZ – ABC15 News reports that an off-duty sergeant of the Phoenix Police Department was struck and seriously injured by a driver along I-17 on Thursday night.

The crash was reported sometime after 11:00 p.m. near Northern Avenue, when the off-duty sergeant was stopped on the road helping another driver. As he was walking back to his parked vehicle, he was struck and seriously injured.

Authorities say the sergeant sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries in the accident and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
