Family of 3 killed, 5 people hurt in alleged DUI crash in Ahwatukee Village

PHOENIX, AZ – Three people were killed and five others were hurt in a rollover collision on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway in the Ahwatukee Village area on New Year’s Day.

According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the crash happened near 40th Street at around 9 p.m., as the driver of a 2016 Ford Fusion was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed and in what was described as a reckless manner.

The Fusion then crashed into the back of a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban. The impact caused the Fusion to overturn and sent the Suburban rolling down the side of an embankment. Four people were ejected from the Chevrolet during the crash.

Three people from Laveen, identified as 45-year-old driver Juan Carlos Gaspar, 45-year-old passenger Selma Gaspar, and a 12-year-old passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Five other people were taken to the hospital to receive treatment for severe, life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Fusion, identified as 23-year-old Ariyan Guy, reportedly admitted to drinking while driving. He was taken into police custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and is facing three charges of felony manslaughter and four charges of aggravated assault.
