Man waiting at bus stop hit, killed by box truck driver in possible DUI

PHOENIX, AZ – A man waiting at a bus stop in south Phoenix was fatally struck by a truck driver who is suspected of being under the influence on Saturday afternoon, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.

The incident occurred at about 3:15 p.m. near Southern Avenue and 16th Street as 64-year-old Javier Saavedra was waiting for the bus at the bus stop. The 24-year-old driver of a box truck hauling a car dolly, identified as Brandon Seymour, was reportedly traveling in the wrong direction when he crashed into the bus stop.

Saavedra was pronounced dead after the collision.

Seymour was taken into police custody on suspicion of driving while under the influence of and is facing charges related to drugs as well as homicide charges.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash at this time.
