Narrative

PHOENIX, AZ – A 53-year-old woman died last Friday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle DUI crash along a busy north Phoenix roadway.

The collision occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Pinnacle Peak Road near 56th Street, which is just northeast of Desert View Village.

Police say that 19-year-old Madison Carey was likely impaired when her vehicle left westbound Pinnacle Peak Road, entered the eastbound side of the road, and struck an eastbound Toyota Corolla carrying five people. The force of the collision caused at least one of the vehicles to ignite.

A passenger in the Toyota, identified as Juliene Aumani, died after transport to the hospital.

Another passenger in the Toyota sustained serious injuries.

Carey and the other three people in the Toyota also required hospitalization.

After Carey was released, police arrested her on charges that include manslaughter and aggravated assault.

A full investigation is underway.
