One person seriously injured in early-morning crash on I-17

PHOENIX, AZ – One person was seriously injured following an accident on I-17 in northwest Phoenix early this morning, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.


The crash occurred near the Grandview neighborhood in Phoenix, on southbound I-17 near Camelback Road, before 12:24 a.m.

One person was taken to the hospital with severe injuries as a result.

Authorities closed the southbound lanes of the interstate near the crash site, and drivers were asked to avoid the area, or to use an alternate route such as State Route 51.

The roadways were closed for multiple hours following the accident, with an estimated opening time of about 3:10 a.m.

It is unclear at this point what led to the crash.
