Pedestrian hit and killed by suspected drunk driver in Phoenix

PHOENIX, AZ – A driver suspected of being under the influence crashed into a pedestrian and killed them in Phoenix early Thursday morning, according to CBS 5 News.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Indian School Road and 22nd Avenue just after 12 a.m., as a man was crossing the street. He was then struck by the driver of an SUV.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene after the crash. They were reportedly exhibiting signs of being under the influence, and then were taken into police custody.

Police believe that the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk when the crash happened.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
