Narrative

PHOENIX, AZ – An 81-year-old man died Sunday after a vehicle struck him as he stood near his bike at a busy Phoenix intersection.

The accident occurred in the morning near the intersection of Cave Creek Road and Bell Road, which is near Bell Park in northeast Phoenix.

Police say that a vehicle hit the cyclist along a sidewalk near the intersection. The biker died at the scene of the collision. Authorities identified him as Eduardo Ramirez Jimenez.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash did not remain at the scene, but police quickly located and apprehended the suspect, whom they identified as Alberto Chilel Santos. They say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Santos faces charges of manslaughter and leaving the scene of the accident.
