Six people hurt after car crashes into Phoenix light rail

PHOENIX, AZ – Six people were injured after a car crossed onto the tracks and collided with a light rail in Phoenix on Sunday afternoon, according to CBS 5 News.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Washington and 11th Street at about 4:30 p.m., when a medium-sized car crossed over the tracks and collided with a light rail. The rail car then went off the tracks.

Emergency staff needed to de-energize the tracks in order to assess the victims at the scene. Six people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Trains experienced a delay of about 15-20 minutes as crews worked the crash. Buses were provided to take travelers between the affected stations of 38th St/Washington and Roosevelt/Central.

Phoenix PD closed the roadways in the area for multiple hours following the accident.
