PHOENIX, AZ – A woman was killed, and a 23-year-old man is facing charges following a fatal hit-and-run crash in northeast Phoenix on Sunday morning, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.
The collision happened on 20th St and Highland Avenue at about 2:40 a.m. Sunday. 23-year-old Isaac Najera reportedly lost control of his vehicle while making a left turn, causing him to veer across multiple lanes of traffic and onto a curb.
He allegedly ran over 47-year-old Barbara Brown, who was sleeping on the ground at the time. The car continued and crashed into a nearby pole. Najera then allegedly fled the scene.
Brown was taken to the hospital, and there she was pronounced dead.
Najera was showing signs of intoxication when he was later located by authorities. He was taken into police custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, and is facing charges of hit-and-run and manslaughter.
