Narrative
PINAL CO., AZ – A wrong-way collision along the interstate in south-central Pinal County killed two people and injured another last Thursday.
Emergency crews responded to the two-vehicle crash around 6 p.m. on the westbound side of I-10 near Picacho Peak. This is about 76 miles southeast of Phoenix.
Police say that for unknown reasons, an eastbound Jeep Cherokee entered the westbound side of the interstate and collided head on with a westbound pickup truck.
The Jeep overturned, ejecting both occupants, who succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims.
The pickup truck sustained heavy front-end damage. Medics transported the driver of the pickup to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A full investigation is underway.
