Narrative

NEAR CAMP VERDE, AZ – A 71-year-old woman lost her life after she was hit by another automobile while responding to a rear-end crash involving two vehicles on I-17 Monday. This collision happened on the southbound lanes at mile marker 293. The 71-year-old woman and other individuals got out of their vehicle to provide traffic control. The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the woman, who was identified as Johna Lee Story, was struck by a fourth vehicle. The fourth motorist had hit one of the vehicles involved in the initial crash. Story was declared dead at the scene. There was no indication made of whether other individuals were hurt. Troopers shut down the southbound lanes and advised drivers to take Cornville Road instead to accommodate the scene clearance and investigation process.
