16-year-old killed, sister and father injured in crash near Globe

GLOBE, AZ – A 16-year-old boy was killed, and his sister and father suffered serious injuries during a car accident that occurred while they were on the way to a ski trip this weekend.

According to KPHO, the crash occurred Saturday morning near Globe, on Highway 60, when the victim’s father struck a patch of icy road.

He lost control of the car, then swerved into the lane of oncoming traffic. There, he collided with another driver.

The three occupants of the vehicle were taken to the hospital with serious wounds.

The 16-year-old later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The victim’s sister, whose age was not immediately released, remained in the hospital in critical condition as of Monday.

The driver was released after treatment of a concussion and injuries to his lung.

The victim was a basketball player at Campo Verde High School in Gilbert, and was described the team as “a heck of a player and an amazing young man.”
