18-year-old motorcyclist killed in Mesa rear-end accident

MESA, AZ – An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a rear-end accident in Mesa last week, according to CBS 5.

The accident occurred at about 6 p.m. Thursday, on the southbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway, near Elliot Road, when 18-year-old Ethan Voorhees was allegedly riding at a high speed with a group of other motorcyclists.

Voorhees, a Mesa resident, collided with the rear of a Nissan sedan, and then was ejected from his motorcycle. He then collided with a cable barrier, and the motorcycle was split nearly in two.

Voorhees was taken to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Nissan’s driver was not hurt.

Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
