53-year-old pedestrian fatally struck by hit-and-run driver in North Phoenix

PHOENIX, AZ – A 53-year-old woman crossing the street in North Phoenix was killed after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Sunday night, according to ABC 15 News.

The accident occurred near the intersection of E Thunderbird Road and N Cave Creek Road, as the victim was struck by the driver of a white 2006 Acura sedan. The driver then fled the scene.

The victim, 53-year-old Jackie Peloguin, was taken to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

43-year-old Melissa Truax is suspected of having been the driver. She claimed that she struck a shopping cart, not a pedestrian, and drove to a friend’s house with a damaged windshield.

She was taken into police custody on charges of leaving a fatal accident.
