Pedestrian killed in Tempe hit-and-run crash after jumping onto side of truck

TEMPE, AZ – A man is dead, and a driver is facing charges after a hit-and-run crash in Tempe this weekend that happened after a pedestrian allegedly jumped onto the side of a box truck, according to CBS 5 News.

The crash happened near Forest Avenue and University Drive on Sunday morning, when a pedestrian named Joseph Henry reportedly jumped onto the driver’s side of a white box truck that was stopped at a red traffic light.

The driver of the truck, identified as David Michael Gonzales, began to fight through the window with Henry. Once he had the green light, Gonzales reportedly made a left turn, causing Henry to fall off the vehicle.

Henry died as a result of the crash.

Gonzales did not stop to render aid, and he was later taken into police custody. Charges are still pending at this time.

Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
