TUCSON, AZ – A 24-year-old woman was killed and a man is facing charges following an alleged DUI crash in south Tucson last weekend, according to the Arizona Daily Star.
The crash occurred at E Bilby Road and S Campbell Avenue at about 12:40 a.m. Saturday, when 39-year-old Jesus Ismael Rodriguez, operating a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, allegedly fled a traffic stop while traveling at a high rate of speed.
After fleeing an officer, Rodriguez allegedly then ran a red light and crashed into a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 24-year-old Reina Alexis Cota.
Cota died at the scene.
Her passenger, who was not immediately identified, was taken to the hospital for the treatment of severe injuries.
Rodriguez was taken in for the treatment of minor wounds.
Officials determined that Rodriguez was driving under the influence when the crash happened.
He was taken into police custody and is facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal damage.
